In preparation for our 2-day boat ride down the Mekong River, some passengers took the Laos guidebook’s advice and bought seat cushions prior to leaving. During the trip, our boat briefly stopped at a small village and some of the curious locals came to the riverbank to look at us. The Portuguese lady sitting next to me suddenly made her way to the front of our long boat. When she came back, I asked and learned she had gone to give her cushion to one of the children. I wish I had seen that brief meeting, but I did manage to find the little girl in the crowd and take a quick picture before we departed.
